Search Eye® automatic reverse braking

The truck stops. Even when the driver doesn’t see it.

Search Eye detects people and objects behind a reversing truck, alerts the driver and applies the air brakes automatically. It fits any commercial vehicle with air brakes.

Search Eye automatic reverse braking, top viewA garbage truck reverses down a street. Rear infrared sensors project a detection zone behind the truck. A person walks behind the truck, the zone turns from blue to amber, the driver is alerted, and the air brakes stop the truck about six feet from the person.
How it works

Three steps, every time the truck reverses.

The driver does not press anything. Search Eye turns on with reverse and resets itself when the truck drives forward.

  1. 01

    System on

Ignition on, truck in reverse. The green System On light comes on in the cab.

  2. 02

    Scanning

Rear infrared sensors watch the space directly behind the truck.

  3. 03

    Detected. Brakes applied

The moment something is there, the air brakes apply. Warning light and tone in the cab.

Real trucks. Real stops.

How Search Eye works

Built for the way trucks really back up.

Alleys at 5 a.m., crews on foot, docks and containers. Each feature exists because a fleet needed it.

Rear detection zone

Three or four infrared sensors watch the space behind the truck every time it reverses. People, poles, cars and bins all register, day or night.

In-cab alerts

A green light confirms the system is on. When something is detected, a yellow light and a tone tell the driver right away.

Automatic air braking

The system applies the truck’s own air brakes. It does not wait for the driver to see, think and react. The truck simply stops.

Driver override, with a safety net

Backing up to a dock or a container on purpose? Press Auto Brake OFF. A red light and pulsing tone stay on, and the sensors keep warning.

Built for job sites too

Dump, mixer, paving and tack trucks get the same protection for the crew working behind them. Any truck with air brakes.

System anatomy

One box. Five parts. Cab to bumper.

Everything ships in one medium-sized box. It connects to the truck’s existing air brakes and does not affect other systems.

Models

Three sensors or four. Matched to the truck.

The right model depends on the truck size and how wide the rear blind spot is. We help you choose per truck type.

GS3000A

Three rear sensors. The standard setup for most rear-load garbage trucks and construction trucks.

GS4000A

Four rear sensors for wider bodies and larger trucks that need more rear coverage.

Overhead Protection

A GS3000A with extra top-mounted sensors that catch overhead objects like branches, wires and structures.

In their words

Why our clients choose Global.

Travis Hout, Fleet and Facilities Manager, City of Venice, Florida

“Other camera and radar systems alarm nonstop, so drivers ignore or unplug them. Global’s system only chimes for real danger and can be bypassed when needed.”

FAQ

Search Eye questions, answered.

Still have a question? Call (905) 507-0007 or send us a note.

What is automatic reverse braking?

Automatic reverse braking is a safety system that detects objects behind a truck while it reverses and applies the brakes on its own. Global Sensor Systems’ Search Eye uses rear infrared sensors and the truck’s existing air brakes, so the truck stops even if the driver did not see the hazard.

Does Search Eye replace backup cameras?

No. They do different jobs and work well together. A camera shows the driver what is behind the truck, but the driver still has to notice, decide and brake. Search Eye applies the brakes itself. Many fleets run both.

Which trucks can use Search Eye?

Any commercial vehicle with air brakes. The most common are garbage and recycling trucks. It is also used on dump trucks, cement mixers, paving trucks, tack trucks, tankers, refuel trucks and utility trucks.

How much does a system cost compared to an accident?

Search Eye is a one-time purchase with no subscription, and pricing depends on the setup and fleet size. One backing accident can cost a fleet tens of thousands of dollars once repairs, downtime, claims and insurance are added. Our ROI calculator shows the numbers for your fleet, and we send a quote on request.

What is the warranty?

Search Eye comes with a two-year warranty. Sensors typically last more than 10 years if they are not physically damaged.

What is the difference between the GS3000A and the GS4000A?

The GS3000A uses three rear sensors and the GS4000A uses four. Larger trucks or bodies with wider rear blind spots usually need four. We help you pick the right model for each truck type in your fleet.

How long does it take to install the automatic braking system?

Six hours or less per truck. The first install always takes the longest. Once a technician knows the process, a three-sensor system usually takes about three to four hours. It does not affect other truck systems.

Who can install Search Eye?

Your own mechanics, a Global partner in your region, or the body builder at the factory. Installation manuals are available in English, French and Spanish, and Global Academy has mechanic training.

Is the system plug and play, or do we supply our own parts?

Search Eye is an add-on that works with the truck’s existing air brakes. The kit includes the sensors, mounting boxes, in-cab control box, 75-foot wiring harness, junction box, brake valve and a sensor alignment tool. Your technician supplies vehicle-specific items like brake lines and some fittings.

The brakes triggered when the truck was more than 6 feet from an object. Is the sensor broken?

Usually not. The infrared sensors are more sensitive to reflective materials, like safety vests and road signs, and to bright white objects with large surfaces. Those can be detected beyond 6 feet.

  1. Overhead Protection is an optional configuration of the GS3000A.

Search Eye is a driver assistance system. It does not replace safe driving practices, mirrors, spotters or company backing procedures. The driver remains responsible for operating the vehicle safely.
