Construction fleets

Automatic reverse braking for construction trucks.

Job sites are loud, dusty and crowded. Ground crews work a few feet from trucks that back up all day. Search Eye stops the truck before it reaches them.

40 of 49
workers killed by dump trucks at road work sites over five years were struck while the truck was backing up.[1]
#2
cause of death for construction workers is being struck by a vehicle or object.[2]

The problem

On a job site, the person behind the truck is usually on your crew.

Dump trucks reverse to the paver. Mixers back up to the pour. Tack trucks work inches from the crew. Spotters help, but they get distracted, step into blind spots, or are simply not there for every move.

  • Ground crews

Rakers, flaggers and laborers work behind trucks all day, often facing away from them.

  • Noise and dust

Constant alarms stop meaning anything, and dust makes cameras and mirrors less reliable.

  • Tight work zones

Road work squeezes trucks, equipment and people into narrow lanes with traffic on one side.

  • Mixed fleets

Owned trucks, rented trucks and subcontractors, each with different safety equipment.

Why cameras alone are not enough

Backup alarms become background noise after the first hour. Cameras get covered in dust. The result is the same pattern OSHA and the BLS keep reporting: workers struck by a vehicle that was backing up.

How Search Eye works

One system. Five ways it has your back.

Search Eye works the moment the truck goes into reverse. No buttons to press, no screens to watch.

Rear detection zone

Three or four infrared sensors watch the space behind the truck every time it reverses. People, poles, cars and bins all register, day or night.

In-cab alerts

A green light confirms the system is on. When something is detected, a yellow light and a tone tell the driver right away.

Automatic air braking

The system applies the truck’s own air brakes. It does not wait for the driver to see, think and react. The truck simply stops.

Driver override, with a safety net

Backing up to a dock or a container on purpose? Press Auto Brake OFF. A red light and pulsing tone stay on, and the sensors keep warning.

Built for job sites too

Dump, mixer, paving and tack trucks get the same protection for the crew working behind them. Any truck with air brakes.

Why Global

Rugged enough for the site. Simple enough for every driver.

Fits these trucks and any other commercial vehicle with air brakes.

Built for harsh conditions

Sensors in protective mounting boxes, designed for dust, mud, weather and vibration. A daily lens wipe is all the care they need.

Works without a spotter

Spotters are still best practice. Search Eye is the backstop when nobody is watching the rear.

Override for close work

Backing right up to a paver or a hopper? Auto Brake OFF keeps the sensors warning while the driver works close.

Any air-brake truck

One system across dump, mixer, paving, tack, tanker and refuel trucks, so your whole fleet works the same way.

Your shop can install it

Six hours or less per truck, with manuals in three languages and mechanic training in Global Academy.

One-time purchase

Two-year warranty, no subscription. The cost of one backover incident covers a lot of trucks.

FAQ

Construction: common questions

Still have a question? Call (905) 507-0007 or send us a note.

Does Search Eye work on dump trucks and cement mixers?

Yes. It fits any commercial vehicle with air brakes, including dump trucks, cement mixers, paving trucks, tack trucks, tankers and refuel trucks.

Will dust and mud stop the sensors from working?

The sensors are built for harsh conditions and sit in protective mounting boxes. A quick wipe of the lenses during the daily inspection keeps them working.

Does automatic reverse braking replace a spotter?

No. Spotters and backing procedures are still best practice. Search Eye adds an automatic stop for the moments when a spotter is out of position or not there.

Can a driver back up close to a paver or hopper?

Yes. The driver presses Auto Brake OFF for close work. A red light and pulsing tone stay on, the sensors keep warning, and automatic braking comes back on its own afterward.
